    Jonathan Marcus

    As the firm’s chief legal counsel, Marcus is responsible for the firm’s compliance, enterprise risk management, legal, and market regulation matters. Prior to joining Chicagoland, Marcus was a private practice partner at Reed Smith LLP, specializing in derivatives regulation, litigation, and enforcement matters. He also served as General Counsel to the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) from 2013 to 2017, advising and advising the Commission on a variety of legal issues, including the implementation of the Dodd-Frank Act and the regulation of digital assets. In addition, Marcus has served as Deputy General Counsel for Litigation and Assistant Deputy Attorney General of the United States at the CFTC. He has also held senior positions in the Derivatives Group at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom and in the Appellate and Supreme Court Groups at Covington & Burling. Marcus began his career on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit as a law clerk to the Honorable José A. Cabranes. He holds a bachelor's degree from Yale University and a Juris Doctor from the University's Law School.
